To become an official Freedom Summer volunteer interested students had to successfully complete a rigorous application and interview process. Participation in this movement was a serious undertaking and not for the faint of heart. This is the application of Andrew Goodman who, along with James Chaney and Michael Schwerner, paid the ultimate price in the name of freedom when they were viciously murdered in Philadelphia, Mississippi while investigating a church fire.
